5th Annual
Festival 2 Cure
Festival 2 Cure began in 2007 in an effort to raise money for our dear friend, Sharon Meeks. In 2006, Sharon received her second diagnosis of breast cancer after going through earlier treatment. Although Sharon fought with every ounce of energy, she was sadly taken from us in April 2008. Those who knew Sharon were lucky. She was caring, thoughtful, sincere, and made everyone around her smile.
Sharon was a school teacher and continued working in the last stages of her disease. During this time, a large group of friends came together in hopes of easing some of her financial worries. With the inspiration of Julie Tew, Festival 2 Cure was formed.
In 2007, several local musicians donated their time and played to a crowd of hundreds gathered on the farm of Liz and Jerry Tew. Those in attendance, including Sharon, enjoyed a weekend of sunshine, dancing, singing, great food, camping and fellowship. They shared memories with old friends while creating even more with new friends.
In 2008, the event was even bigger. More musicians joined and more supporters gathered. Unfortunately, Sharon was unable to attend as her illness kept her home. She was in our hearts throughout the weekend as the community support was phenomenal. It is in a world like that where so many are so willing to give their time, money, and energy in which we should all be thankful to life. Although Sharon can no longer be here physically, we are proud to continue the Festival in her honor and memory.
In loving memory of Sharon Leslie Meeks
